A violent clash erupted between two groups in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday over a land dispute. The incident took place in Magurhati of Deora village under Shahjadapur Union.
At least 30 people from both sides were injured, while several houses were vandalised during the chaos. The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital and various private clinics for treatment.
According to police and local sources, a dispute over a piece of land in Deora village has been ongoing between the groups of local residents Dana Mia and Shipon Mia.
The two sides first clashed on Friday evening. Following that altercation, both groups again engaged in a fierce confrontation on Saturday morning, armed with spears, sharp weapons, and other locally made tools.
Witnesses said the clash triggered panic across the village as both sides chased each other and hurled brickbats. The violence continued for about two hours, leaving at least 30 people injured. Several houses were vandalised and some were set on fire by the attackers.
Upon receiving the report, police and army personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police forces have since been deployed to prevent further unrest.
Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ehteshamul Haque said the clash stemmed from a land dispute between two local groups. “Police, along with army personnel, intervened promptly and brought the situation under control. The area is now calm,” he added.
