A tourist from Dhaka has gone missing while swimming in the remote Nafakhum area of Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila.
Local sources said on Friday, 14 November, a group of 10 to 11 people from the Demra Sarulia area of Dhaka travelled via Alikadam-Thanchi road to Thanchi and visited Nafakhum. While swimming there, 25-year-old Iqbal Hossain reportedly drowned in the deep water and missing since then.
Thanchi police station OC Nasir Uddin Majumdar said “The group went to the remote tourist spot without any registration or guide, which delayed the reporting of the incident.”
He added “Police immediately headed to the site after receiving information and later joined the rescue operation alongside Border Guard Bangladesh members.”
However, as of Saturday, Iqbal Hossain has not been found.
The OC said the joint search operation will continue until the missing tourist is rescued.
