Actor Ayesha Khan has received public support from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) after she was detained by Mumbai Police while attempting to participate in protests linked to the nationwide movement over the NEET paper leak controversy.
The actor was taken into custody on 22 July while heading to a solidarity protest in Mumbai.
Nearly a week later, the political movement praised her for standing with students and supporting their demand for education reforms.
The month-long protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party and social activist Sonam Wangchuk, began at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar before spreading across several cities.
The demonstrations intensified following the “Sansad Chalo” march on 20 July, during which clashes between protesters and police drew widespread attention.
Ayesha Khan was among those detained during the Mumbai demonstrations.
Days after the incident, she shared a workout video on Instagram, where the official CJP account publicly acknowledged her support.
The party commented: “Thank you Ayesha for standing with students and supporting their voice. Your courage and commitment to their cause show the importance of standing up for justice and education.”
The comment has since attracted attention on social media, with many users praising the actor for supporting the student movement.
Following her release, Ayesha shared several videos on social media describing her experience.
According to the actor, she had travelled with her brother and friends to join a protest scheduled in Dadar when police informed them that demonstrations were not permitted at the location.
She alleged that before any protest had begun, officers detained members of her group, including her brother and a friend.
As she waited nearby, she too was taken into custody.
Ayesha claimed that she and two friends were escorted into a police vehicle despite not carrying placards, raising slogans or participating in any demonstration at that point.
She later questioned why she had been detained, saying she received no clear explanation from officers at the scene.
While criticising the handling of the situation at the protest site, Ayesha said police personnel at Mumbai’s Worli Police Station treated those detained respectfully.
In videos recorded during the incident, she is seen asking officers where they were taking the detainees and requesting that they avoid pushing her while escorting her to the police vehicle.
The actor also questioned the use of force by some officers deployed at the protest venue, saying she and her companions were simply waiting on the roadside when they were taken into custody.
Ayesha first gained wider recognition through her appearance in the song Shararat from Dhurandhar.
Since the incident, she has continued to speak publicly about her experience, while receiving support from sections of social media and now the Cockroach Janta Party.
