The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has registered two cases against the vehicle of the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, for driving on the wrong side of the road.

According to traffic police sources, a flag-bearing Range Rover was heading towards the Secretariat on the wrong side of Circuit House Road in Dhaka at around 9:08am on Thursday. At that exact moment, the prime minister’s motorcade was passing along the adjacent road towards the Secretariat, adhering to traffic signals.

Upon noticing the traffic violation, the on-duty traffic police personnel stopped the vehicle immediately. The driver, Arif Hossain, was informed of the traffic law violation, and two separate cases were filed under two different sections for reckless driving.

Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was himself present in the vehicle when the incident occurred. A total fine of Tk6,000 (Tk3,000 for each case) has been imposed on his vehicle across the two cases.

A senior traffic police officer remarked that while there have been past instances of ministers’ vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid traffic congestion or to reach their destinations quickly, this is the first time a case has been registered over such a violation.
