England all-rounder Chris Woakes is set to play in the Bangladesh Premier League, where he will turn out for Sylhet Titans in the remainder of the tournament.
Sylhet have already confirmed their place in the playoffs, and speculation had been growing over Woakes’ possible arrival. That speculation has now been confirmed, with the experienced England star set to make his BPL debut and add further strength to the Sylhet squad.
Woakes is a regular presence across the global franchise circuit and has previously featured in tournaments such as the IPL, Big Bash League and ILT20. His arrival is expected to significantly bolster Sylhet’s balance with both bat and ball.
The 36-year-old has represented England in all three formats and is a two-time world champion, having won both the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup during his international career.
In T20 internationals, Woakes has played 33 matches for England, scoring 147 runs at a strike rate of 125.64 and taking 31 wickets. Across all T20 cricket, he has featured in 170 matches, scoring 1,031 runs at a strike rate of 128.55 while also claiming 179 wickets.
Sylhet Titans already have strong overseas representation this season. England star Moeen Ali is part of the squad, along with Azmatullah Omarzai, Ethan Brooks and Salman Irshad among the foreign recruits.
Under the captaincy of Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Sylhet confirmed their place in the playoffs following the conclusion of the Sylhet phase of the tournament. They secured a six-wicket win over Rangpur Riders on Monday and currently sit third on the points table with five wins from nine matches.
Rajshahi Warriors and Chattogram Royals have also confirmed their spots in the playoffs as the race for the BPL title intensifies.
