Dhaka Capitals came close but fell short against Sylhet Titans by 6 runs in the 7th game of the BPL 2026. A brave fight from Shamim Hossain Patwary was not enough to save the match.
Chasing 174, Dhaka lost wickets early and slipped into trouble. Usman Khan scored 21 from 15 balls. Saif Hassan, Zubaid Akbari, Mohammad Mithun and Nasir Hossain failed to build any partnership. Pressure kept growing with every over.
Shamim Hossain Patwary and Sabbir Rahman tried to change the game in the middle overs. Sabbir made 23 from 19 balls with two sixes and a four. After his dismissal, Shamim stood alone. He played with courage and control. Shamim stayed unbeaten on 81 from 43 balls. He used unorthodox shots in his usual style. With little support from the other end, he kept Dhaka’s hopes alive till the last over.
Dhaka needed 27 runs in the final over. Mohammad Amir had bowled well earlier but conceded 20 runs in that over. The chase ended in defeat for Dhaka Capitals.
Earlier, Sylhet Titans recovered well after early setbacks. Rony Talukdar looked positive but fell for 11 from 7 balls. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz followed soon after, scoring 6 from 7 balls. Sylhet were under pressure at the top.
Parvez Hossain Emon and Saim Ayub steadied the innings. Emon scored 44 from 32 balls with two fours and two sixes. Ayub played a careful knock of 29 from 34 balls. Afif Hossain added 13 before getting out.
Sylhet were again in trouble before Azmatullah Omarzai turned the match. He attacked under pressure and changed the momentum. Ethan Brookes supported him well at the other end. Omarzai got two chances when Shamim Hossain Patwary dropped him. Those mistakes proved costly.
Omarzai made full use of the reprieves. He reached his fifty from 24 balls with a boundary off the last ball of the innings. It was the fastest fifty of the tournament. Sylhet finished on 173 for 5 in 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed gave away 46 runs in his four overs.
Sylhet Titans held their nerve and walked away with a valuable win.
