Others joked that the person behind Chelsea’s social media account would be in trouble after the controversial post.
Chelsea later removed the message from its official social media channels. The club has not explained why it was deleted.
The incident brought fresh attention to Fernandez, who has faced controversy before while on international duty with Argentina.
Following Argentina’s Copa America triumph in 2024, the midfielder apologised after becoming involved in an incident over offensive chanting. Chelsea also handled the matter internally.
Despite that episode, Fernandez remains one of Chelsea’s most important players after joining the club from Benfica in a British record transfer.
