The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has launched a state-of-the-art cyber security system to protect the country’s busiest seaport from rising global cyber threats and to strengthen the security of its digital infrastructure and maritime logistics operations..
The advanced cyber security platform was officially inaugurated by CPA Chairman Rear Admiral S. M. Moniruzzaman at a ceremony held at the port authority’s conference room on Sunday .
Members of the CPA Board, project directors, departmental and branch heads, along with technical experts involved in the implementation of the project, attended the inauguration.
According to the port authority, the rapid expansion of digital platforms, automated logistics, internet-based services and financial technologies across the global maritime industry has significantly enhanced operational efficiency while simultaneously exposing ports to increasing cyber security risks.
To address these evolving threats, the CPA has introduced a comprehensive cyber defence system designed to safeguard its critical digital infrastructure and operational data.
As part of the initiative, the CPA signed an agreement on January 11 with Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, Narayanganj—a specialised defence engineering company operated by the Bangladesh Navy—to develop and implement the cyber security infrastructure.
The newly launched system incorporates advanced features including early detection of cyber threats, strict access control for sensitive information, protection against viruses and malware, real-time cyber intelligence, prevention of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, continuous network monitoring, forensic investigation of cyber incidents and round-the-clock surveillance through a dedicated Network and Security Operations Centre (NOC/SOC).
Port officials said the system will also support compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code while ensuring uninterrupted terminal operations and creating a more secure, reliable and transparent digital environment for port users, traders and international shipping partners.
The CPA expressed confidence that the modern cyber security infrastructure will significantly enhance the port’s digital resilience and reinforce Chittagong Port’s position as a secure, efficient and internationally competitive maritime logistics hub.
