Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has described the ongoing general election and referendum as a historic opportunity to build a “new Bangladesh,” calling the day one of the nation’s greatest joys and a moment of liberation.

He said, “Through the process that began today, we have completely left the past behind. At every step, we now have the chance to build a new Bangladesh. Let’s celebrate the birthday of Bangladesh today. Let the entire nation join in the festival throughout the day.”

Yunus made the comments after casting his vote at Gulshan Model School and College polling centre in Dhaka on Thursday morning.

Emphasising the importance of both the election and the referendum, he said, “Casting votes for candidates is very important. However, the referendum is equally important.”

He urged all citizens to participate in the referendum to help shape a new Bangladesh.

He added, “It is a day of immense happiness in my life. It is also a day of great joy and a moment of liberation for the people of Bangladesh.”

Referring to the broader process underway, Yunus said the day marks the end of past nightmares and the beginning of a renewed national framework. He observed that people across the country were treating the day like a national festival, celebrating it with the spirit of Eid.
