Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin has said every member of the law enforcement agencies is committed to carrying out their duties in the upcoming national election.
He said action would be taken against anyone who tries to obstruct voting.
He made the remarks on Wednesday morning after inspecting Border Guard Bangladesh’s election preparedness at Pilkhana in Dhaka and exchanging views with its members ahead of the parliamentary election.
“Every member of the law enforcement agencies is committed to performing their respective duties in the upcoming election. Therefore, we will be able to deliver a fair and proper election by maintaining law and order,” he said.
He added, “I do not think the law and order situation has reached a perfect level. However, it is gradually returning to normal.”
When asked about threats to prevent voting, he said, “If anyone tries to obstruct voting, action will be taken against them.”
Praising the professionalism, dedication and preparedness of BGB, he emphasised the skill and commitment of field-level personnel in ensuring a fair, free and peaceful election. He also gave various directives during the view-exchange meeting.
CEC Nasir Uddin inspected the election training and drills held at the Dhaka Battalion (5 BGB) training field inside the BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana.
A total of 1,210 BGB platoons will carry out election duties across the country in the February parliamentary election. BGB will perform election duties in all upazilas except Sandwip, Hatiya and Kutubdia. Among the 115 border upazilas, BGB members will perform election duties alone in 60 upazilas.
