A young woman was allegedly gang-raped in Monpura of Bhola on Thursday night.
The victim filed a rape case at Monpura Police Station on Friday, said Monpura Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiya.
He said the 19-year-old victim, a garment worker from Sunamganj residing in Dhaka, filed the case accusing Masud, Al Amin, Alamgir, Idris Majhi, and Gias. Her medical examination will be conducted, he added.
According to the case statement, the victim, along with her friend, travelled to Monpura by launch on Wednesday and initially stayed at her friend’s grandmother’s house in North Sakuchia. On Thursday morning, a group of seven to eight men, including Masud, Al Amin, and Alamgir, went to the house.
They reportedly threatened the young woman and her friend and demanded Tk2 lakh, accusing them of an extramarital relationship.
Fearing for their safety, the couple moved to another house nearby, where they intended to marry. However, that night, the accused tracked them down. They took the two to a nearby place, where they raped the woman.
The perpetrators allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed the incident.
Police are conducting operations to arrest the accused.
