Former Pakistan captain and commentator Ramiz Raja has expressed concern over Bangladesh’s middle-order batting after their match against India. He criticized players like Towhid Hridoy for playing careless shots that cost both themselves and the team important opportunities.
On his YouTube channel, Ramiz said, “I often get frustrated with Hridoy. He succeeds sometimes, but often he fails on his own.”
Ramiz emphasized that middle-order batsmen must take responsibility. Batting first allows players to take risks and play freely. But when chasing a target, they need a careful approach.
He explained, “There is a clear difference between batting first and chasing runs in the middle order. When batting first, you can take chances, try new things, and play openly because your goal is to set a target.”
Giving advice to Hridoy, he added, “When chasing a target, especially an achievable one, players must assess the situation and play wisely. You cannot act like a tail-ender, hit a big shot, and get out without giving yourself a chance.”
Despite his criticism, Ramiz believes Bangladesh’s batsmen have strong potential. He said that if they develop the right mindset and understand the match situation, they can make a real impact in important games.
He said, “If they keep getting out against strong teams without giving themselves a chance, they cannot be called good. But they have great potential and can become match-winners if they understand the difference between batting first and chasing runs.”
Ramiz also noted that Bangladesh must improve their game, and the team has a crucial opportunity in the final Super Four match against Pakistan.
He concluded, “Bangladesh must raise their performance and show it in both innings against Pakistan.”
Ramiz’s remarks highlight that while Bangladesh has talent, responsible batting is essential to compete with top teams.
