A mobile court has fined a businessman Tk3,000 for the offence of selling diesel at a price above the government-fixed rate in Gangni, Meherpur.

Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter. He conducted the drive at Gangni Bazar at around 10:30pm on Friday.

The businessman named Bazlu Mia, from Bazlu Traders, had been selling diesel at Tk120 to Tk125 per litre since the evening. However, the government-fixed price is Tk101 per litre.

During the operation, around 2,000 litres of seized diesel were sold to farmers at the official government rate.

UNO Anwar said Bazlu was found guilty and fined under the Consumer Rights Protection Act. He warned that the law would be strictly enforced against anyone committing such irregularities in the future.
