Culprits are spreading panic through a series of cocktail explosions across the capital centring the verdict announcement in crimes against humanity case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others.
Following this pattern, miscreants set a bus on fire and hurled a crude bomb in the Badda area.
The incident occurred around 10pm on Sunday.
Md Shahjahan, the duty officer at the Fire Service control room, said, “We have heard reports of a bus fire in Middle Badda. But we do not have any information yet on how the fire started.”
Earlier in the evening, miscreants hurled two crude bombs from a moving vehicle in front of the SAARC Fountain in the busy Karwan Bazar area.
Subsequently, at 9pm, two cocktails blasts were reported in front of the residence of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources.
Then, around 9:30pm, a cocktail explosion occurred in front of the NCP office in Banglamotor.
The verdict in the crimes against humanity case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to be announced on Monday.
The Awami League, whose activities remain suspended, called for a “lockdown” programme last week ahead of the verdict. Since 10 November, coinciding with this programme, incidents of arson on buses and trains and crude bomb explosions have been occurring in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has ordered shooting on sight against saboteurs. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed throughout the capital ahead of the verdict against Hasina. Army, police, and RAB personnel are also on highest alert.
