Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) held a seminar on Wednesday to raise awareness among young people about empathy, tolerance and responsible behaviour amid concerns that rapid technological change and social media are contributing to intolerance and social polarisation.

The seminar, titled “Empathy, Tolerance and Social Cohesion: Building a Better Society”, was organised by the Department of Sociology under BUP’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the Shadhinata Auditorium from 9:45am to 12:45pm, the university said in a press release.

The event focused on the changing attitudes and values of Bangladesh’s younger generation as technological advances and the growing influence of social media create new opportunities while raising concerns about intolerance and polarisation.
