Seven teachers and researchers of Chittagong University (CU) have secured places in the 2026 list of the world’s top 2 per cent scientists.
The list was published jointly by the renowned Stanford University in the United States and Netherlands-based publishing company Elsevier on Wednesday.
It is learnt that the list was compiled through an objective mathematical analysis evaluating researchers’ published research papers, citations, h-index, hm-index, contributions as single and primary authors, research continuity, co-authors’ impact, and composite scores.
Chittagong University faculty members who earned places on this world-ranking list are Professor Dr ANM Alamgir (retired) of the Department of Botany, Professor Dr Khan Towhid Osman (retired) of the Department of Soil Science, Professor Dr SM Abe Kawsar of the Department of Chemistry, Professor Dr Md Atiar Rahman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Professor Dr Mohammad Shahadat Hossain of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Dr SM Sharifuzzaman of the Institute of Marine Sciences, and Lecturer Emranul Kabir of the Department of Chemistry.
According to the world ranking, among the CU researchers on the list, ANM Alamgir ranks 60,624th, Khan Towhid Osman 96,065th, SMA Kawsar 1,54,408th, Imranul Kabir 2,05,065th, Dr Mohammad Shahadat Hossain 2,08,179th, SM Sharifuzzaman 3,13,629th, and Dr Md Atiar Rahman holds the 3,67,525th position.
Expressing satisfaction over this achievement, CU Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Al-Forkan said, “I am immensely delighted that our colleagues have achieved such a prestigious standing. We have envisioned and worked towards such a university so that our institution turns into a sanctuary for research.”
