Jasprit Bumrah endured another difficult outing for Mumbai Indians against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, conceding 45 runs in four overs without a wicket as his IPL 2026 struggles continued.
Bumrah has taken only three wickets in ten matches this season. His bowling average stands at 109.66 and his economy rate has risen to 8.89. He has overstepped eight times, including three no-balls in a single spell against Lucknow.
Sunil Gavaskar reacted sharply on commentary when Bumrah bowled consecutive no-balls. “Don’t tell me… don’t tell me… please don’t tell me that Bumrah has bowled another no-ball! It is not acceptable. It is not acceptable at all. From a professional cricketer it is not acceptable. If it is a wide I understand, but a no-ball, no way.”
Bumrah started the season without a wicket in his first five matches. He broke that run in his sixth game but failed to build momentum. He has since returned similar figures, with runs conceded outweighing any control he usually brings.
Opponents have targeted him rather than seeing him through safely. He has conceded more than ten runs per over in four matches this season, a figure he had never reached so often in any previous IPL campaign.
His control at the crease has also dropped. Bumrah has rarely overstepped across his career, but eight no-balls in ten matches mark a sharp deviation from his usual discipline.
Television cameras cut to Mumbai head coach Mahela Jayawardene and bowling coach Lasith Malinga after the back-to-back no-balls. Both watched in silence as Bumrah struggled to reset his line.
Bumrah built his reputation on precision and control under pressure. This season has brought neither.
