Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul left the country on Monday due to urgent family matters. Before leaving, he wished everyone for Ramadan in the BCB directors’ WhatsApp group. He wrote that he was leaving for emergency family issues and would return soon. A BCB director later confirmed the matter.
The board has gone through a tense few weeks. Bangladesh’s exclusion from the ongoing T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka sparked debate. Differences among board directors and tension with the media have also come into focus.
Meanwhile, BCB Chief Program Coordinator Minhajul Abedin Nannu spoke to the media in front of the BCB office on Monday. He expressed hope that the situation will improve after the newly elected government takes oath.
“With a newly elected government set to take oath, we hope everything will now proceed smoothly,” Nannu said. He added that there are misunderstandings among clubs and those issues must be resolved.
The standoff between some clubs and the board has already affected domestic cricket, with several clubs unwilling to take part in leagues under the current administration.
Nannu stressed that cricket must stay above everything else. “We want our cricket to come first, our Bangladesh above everything,” he said. He added that the game cannot suffer and everyone must work toward a positive outcome. “There should be no compromise when it comes to the game. We want the best possible outcome for everyone.”
