K-Pop superstars BTS are set to mark their long-awaited return with a live-streamed concert and an intimate documentary on Netflix, their first performance since completing military service.
The concert will be broadcast on March 21 from Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, in celebration of their fifth studio album, ‘ARIRANG’, which will be released a day earlier on March 20.
Netflix will follow the performance with a documentary, ‘BTS: The Return’, premiering on March 27. The film promises fans a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s reunion and the creative process behind their new music. It is expected to explore both their public performances and the personal and professional challenges the group faced during their hiatus.
The seven-member band, comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook, have not toured outside South Korea and the US since 2019.
During their break, members released solo albums, performed on individual tours, and pursued other projects. The group returned to full activities last June after completing their mandatory military service.
The comeback also coincides with the announcement of a world tour spanning 34 cities with 82 shows. The tour will reach London for two nights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 6 and 7, giving international fans the first chance to see the full group live in years.
Netflix described the return as “a defining cultural moment,” highlighting the combination of a global live stream, documentary, and world tour. The platform added that the documentary will explore BTS confronting “quieter questions,” such as how to begin again and move forward as a group.
Fans can expect to see the band navigate moments of doubt, rediscovery, and creative collaboration, culminating in what Netflix calls “a landmark album of its time.”
