The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) is going to introduce an “Extended Business Reporting Model” to improve disclosure transparency and financial reporting, aimed at facilitating easier analysis and monitoring in the country’s capital markets, said BSEC Commissioner Md Saifuddin.

At a seminar organized by market stakeholders on Wednesday, Saifuddin highlighted the ongoing issue of transparency in information disclosure that has long affected investor confidence.

The Extended Business Reporting Model is machine-readable and adheres to international accounting standards, simplifying analysis and monitoring, but requires cooperation from auditors and all stakeholders.

noted that the lack of coordination has hindered the full realization of its benefits in Bangladesh.
Islam also stressed the importance of accurate, timely data in the development of financial products and improved market efficiency.

Calling for a robust information flow and informed decision-making in investments, Chattogram Stock Exchange Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman pointed out that 75% of Bangladesh’s population lacks financial literacy, often leading to decisions based on rumors rather than facts.

DSE Brokers Association President Saiful Islam observed that, while participation in the capital market is increasing, the lack of real-time, reliable information continues to hinder progress.

The seminar concluded by reinforcing the messages of World Investor Week 2025, urging investors to verify information, conduct independent research, and be cautious of misleading online content.
