The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has distributed financial grant cheques totaling Tk1.40 crore among 38 families who have faced severe hardship due to road accidents in Cox’s Bazar district.
The assistance was provided to victims and family members of those who have lost limbs or suffered permanent disability in such incidents.
The cheques were handed over during a ceremony held at the Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner’s conference room on Wednesday afternoon. According to BRTA, the organisation is standing by these victims following government directives, with the hope that the financial support will allow them to rebuild their lives.
Organised by the BRTA Trustee Board, the event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, who distributed the cheques among the families of those killed or injured in various road accidents across the district during 2026.
The programme, moderated by Additional District Magistrate Mamnun Ahmed Anik, was attended by BRTA Assistant Director Md Kamruzzaman, the sub-divisional engineer of Cox’s Bazar Road Department, and Cox’s Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman.
Other speakers included Journalist Union Cox’s Bazar President Nurul Islam Helali, labour leader Abul Kalam Abu, and members of the affected families.
BRTA sources confirmed that the recipients of the grants included passengers, pedestrians, drivers, and helpers.
Under the compensation scheme, each family of the deceased received Tk5 lakh, while injured victims were provided with financial assistance ranging from a minimum of Tk1 lakh to a maximum of Tk3 lakh.
