A brickfield worker was killed after becoming entangled in a snapped electric wire at a brickfield in Zianagar upazila of Pirojpur on Thursday.
The deceased was Md Faruk Hossain, 45, son of Ajibur Rahman Gazi from Tetultala area in Koyra of Khulna, who had been working as a brickmaker at the KBI Brick Field for several years.
The incident occurred around 11am at the KBI Brick Field in Kholpatua village under Chandipur Union, and police said the body was kept at Pirojpur District Hospital, according to Zianagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shamim Hawlader.
A snapped electric wire had fallen on the road during a storm with wind and rain the previous night, and Faruk came into contact with the live wire while carrying a pitcher to collect water, leaving him unconscious on the spot, said local sources.
Co-workers rescued him and took him to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead after examination, said brickfield owner Aslam Hossain.
The brickfield does not have valid legal documents, although an application has been filed, the owner admitted when asked about its legality.
Police rushed to the scene after being informed and filed an unnatural death case in connection with the incident, said Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hossain.
