BRAC Bank has distributed more than 62,000 winter clothes across Bangladesh as part of a nationwide effort to support marginalised communities affected by extreme cold, the lender said on Tuesday.
The distribution, announced in Dhaka on 13 January, covered urban, semi-urban and rural areas and targeted groups most vulnerable to winter-related health risks, including children and the elderly.
As part of the programme, BRAC Bank provided 13,000 blankets through the Chief Adviser’s Welfare Fund and the Chattogram City Corporation, aiming to ensure rapid support for vulnerable communities in cities and surrounding areas, said a press release.
In parallel, the bank used its small and medium enterprise and distribution network to deliver 49,653 hoodies at the union level. The items were distributed to madrasas, orphanages and communities with limited access to winter protection, expanding the reach of the initiative to remote and underserved areas.
The programme was designed to help reduce health risks linked to severe cold and to protect lives during the winter months, with a focus on those facing the greatest hardship.
Commenting on the initiative, Tareq Refat Ullah Khan Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank said the programme reflected the bank’s responsibility to stand beside vulnerable communities and translate its commitment to inclusion and dignity into tangible action.
BRAC Bank said it remains focused on national well-being through corporate social responsibility initiatives that address immediate humanitarian needs while also supporting longer-term social resilience.
