BRAC Bank held a remittance awareness conference in Bogura, aiming to encourage the use of formal banking channels for sending foreign remittances, the bank said.
The event took place on April 19 at the Mahasthangarh Agent Banking Outlet, bringing together expatriate family members and local residents for an interactive session on safe remittance practices.
Bank officials highlighted the risks linked to informal transfer methods such as hundi and stressed that formal channels ensure safety, transparency and regulatory compliance. They said such channels also support foreign exchange reserves and contribute to overall economic stability.
Participants were introduced to BRAC Bank’s Probashi Paribar accounts, designed for expatriates and their families. The products offer access to savings; transactions and a range of financial services aimed at strengthening the financial resilience of remittance-receiving households.
Officials also advised customers to use remittance income more strategically, encouraging spending on education, small business investment, savings and asset creation rather than short-term consumption.
The conference also focused on the expanding role of agent banking in promoting financial inclusion. BRAC Bank said its network of more than 1,120 agent banking outlets is helping deliver banking services to underserved and remote communities, while supporting digital adoption and improving financial literacy.
