The Board of Governors (BoG) of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has approved the university’s revised operating and development budgets for the 2025–2026 fiscal year and the original operating and development budgets for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.
The approval was given at the 201st (special) meeting of the Board of Governors, held on Sunday evening at the conference room of the vice-chancellor’s office in Dhaka, reads a press release.
The meeting was chaired by BOU VC Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan.
The meeting was attended by Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khalek, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, National University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Md Lutfor Rahman, BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Anisur Rahman, DU Marketing Department Professor Md Morshed Hasan Khan, along with other members of the Board of Governors.
Earlier, the VC who is also serving as treasurer on an additional charge basis, presented the revised operating and development budgets for FY2025–26 and the original operating and development budgets for FY2026–27 at the 159th meeting of the Finance Committee.
After reviewing the proposals, the Finance Committee recommended them for approval by the Board of Governors.
Following the committee’s recommendation, the Board unanimously approved a revised operating budget of Tk26,280.38 lakh and a revised development budget of Tk159.76 lakh for FY2025–26.
For FY2026–27, the Board approved an original operating budget of Tk32,569.50 lakh and an original development budget of Tk3,500.00 lakh.
In his budget speech, BOU VC and Treasurer (additional charge) Siddiqur said, “For the past three decades, Bangladesh Open University has been spreading the light of higher education through distance learning among marginalised and working people, as well as Bangladeshi brothers and sisters living abroad.
In response to the demands of the time, BOU’s extensive network is now being transformed into a smart, research-oriented education system powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and modern digital technologies. As part of this visionary transformation, the university has already established ‘ITVET’ to promote technical education.”
He added, “The revised budget for FY2025–26 and the original budget for FY2026–27 have been prepared with this goal in mind. Formulated under the thoughtful guidance of the Finance Committee, the budget will pave the way for BAOU’s future development, technological transformation and advanced research, while also playing a significant role in developing skilled human resources.
Its approval will bring new dynamism to the university’s education, research, technology-driven services and infrastructure development. Above all, the implementation of this master plan will make it easier and more effective to deliver world-class digital education services to the doorsteps of learners.”
