Police have recovered a bomb-like object wrapped in red tape along with a handwritten note from the entrance of a residence in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Wednesday morning.
Law enforcement officials said the items were recovered at around 9am following a tip-off and later taken into police custody for examination.
According to SI Kamruzzaman, in-charge of Kumaridanga Police Camp, the suspicious object and the note were found inside a polythene bag placed at the entrance of the house of Atikul Islam Hanif Mondal in Chargoal village.
Police immediately secured the area and placed the suspected explosive device in a bucket filled with water as a precautionary measure before transporting it to the police station.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine whether the items were left to intimidate the homeowner or were linked to an extortion attempt.
No casualties or damage were reported in connection with the incident.
