Several bomb‑like objects attached to wires were found at three separate locations in Meherpur town on Saturday morning, triggering panic among residents.
The objects were recovered around 9:30am from in front of Meherpur University, Court Mor (intersection), and Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Park.
Police later confirmed the items were not bombs.
Humayun Kabir, officer‑in‑charge of Sadar Police Station, said there was no reason to panic. “All three objects have been recovered and taken to the police station.”
An investigation is underway to determine who placed them there. Those involved will be brought under the law, the OC added.
Locals first spotted a box‑shaped object attached to wires on an electric pole in front of Meherpur University. Suspecting it to be a bomb, panic spread and a crowd gathered.
Police were informed, and a team from Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene. With public assistance, the box was brought down and placed in a bucket of water. The battery connections were cut, and on opening the box, police found it contained a sound‑box‑like device.
Soon after, police were alerted to two more similar objects placed among wires on electric poles near Court Mor and in front of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Park.
The device at Court Mor was recovered, while pedestrians reported that Sheikh Mujib’s speech began playing from the box near the park around 9:15am. Police quickly arrived and removed it.
