The bodies of three members of a Bangladeshi family who were killed in Italy are being brought back home, with the lone survivor of the attack, Amir Hossain Ayon Chowdhury, returning with the coffins of his father, mother and younger sister.
A Bangladesh Biman flight carrying the coffins will leave Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport at 7:20pm local time on Friday and is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 8:00am on Saturday.
Ayon Chowdhury’s father Kamal Uddin, mother Momtaz Begum and younger sister Arisha were killed in an attack at their flat in Rome’s Via Montilio area on 26 June. Ayon was critically injured in the incident and remained under treatment at a hospital for an extended period.
After recovering, Ayon completed the necessary legal procedures with assistance from the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome. He will now return to Bangladesh with the bodies of his family members.
Since the beginning of Ayon’s treatment in Italy, the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome had been taking steps to send the bodies home at government expense. The embassy also maintained regular communication with Italian authorities to ensure Ayon’s recovery and support efforts to secure justice over the killings.
