Bangladesh reached 181 for two after 51 overs against Australia as Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto slowly rebuilt the innings after Mominul Haque’s dismissal.
Tanzid survived a major scare against Nathan Lyon. The opener edged a cut close to his body, with the ball deflecting off Alex Carey’s elbow towards first slip. Steven Smith got a hand to the chance but could not hold it.
Tanzid had 62 at the time and Lyon had already given him a life on the opening day when the batter scored nought.
The opener continued to anchor Bangladesh after the reprieve and moved to 74 from 144 balls. Shanto joined him at the crease and reached 28 from 40 balls.
The pair have given Bangladesh stability after Mominul’s exit. Bangladesh now trail Australia by 17 runs, with eight wickets still in hand.
