BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has declared that his party will resolve the nationwide drug problem and create necessary employment opportunities if elected.
Speaking at an election rally on Tuesday at the Circuit House ground in Mymensingh, he expressed his vision to establish numerous vocational institutes to provide the youth with training that would enable them to work both domestically and abroad.
Identifying healthcare as a significant challenge for the people of Mymensingh, Rahman stated his intention to expand district hospitals and appoint healthcare workers to provide door-to-door medical services.
He emphasised that the goal is to ensure mothers, children, and sisters can access treatment from their homes. Urging the public to vote for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ in the 13th Parliamentary election, the BNP Chairman pledged that his government would implement all promises made to the residents of the four districts.
During the rally, Rahman introduced 24 BNP candidates from four districts to the public, with each candidate holding a “sheaf of paddy”. He called upon local voters to ensure victory for every one of them.
In a religious appeal, the BNP chief requested Muslim supporters to pray Tahajjud for the party’s victory and, after performing Fajr prayers, to head directly to the polling stations. He similarly advised followers of other religions to go to the centres after their first morning prayers. He further urged supporters to remain at the polling stations after casting their votes to guard the ballot boxes.
Invoking the spirit of the Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising, Rahman stated he is always ready for the country’s needs. He called upon everyone, regardless of religion or caste, to unite to vote and protect their votes in the election scheduled for 12 February.
The rally, which marked Tarique Rahman’s fifth election meeting, saw a massive influx of party activists, supporters, and general citizens. Although the formal proceedings began at 2pm, the Circuit House ground was filled to capacity well before then, with processions arriving from Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, and Netrokona districts. The BNP Chairman arrived on stage at approximately 4:15pm to deliver his speech as the chief guest.
To prevent any untoward incidents, law enforcement agencies maintained a vigilant presence throughout the day.
The rally was presided over by Zakir Hossain Babu, convener of Mymensingh South District BNP, and moderated by BNP Member Secretary Rokonuzzaman Sarker and Mymensingh North District BNP Joint Convener Motahar Hossain.
A wide array of parliamentary candidates and senior central leaders also addressed the gathering, including Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Rashiduzzaman Millat, Barrister Kayser Kamal, Lutfozzaman Babar, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Faruk, Advocate Arifa Jesmin Nahin, Rakibul Islam Rakib, Shamsuzzaman Mehedi, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, Abdul Bari Danny, Sirajul Islam, Afzal H Khan, Wares Ali Mamun, Abu Wahab Akanda Wahid, Mahabubur Rahman Liton, Zakir Hossain Bablu, Motahar Hossain Talukder, Iqbal Hossain, Shamim Talukder, Sansila Jabrin Priyanka, Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Fakhruddin Ahmed Bachchu, Akhtaruzzaman Bachchu, Anwarul Haque, Abu Taher Talukder, Rafiqul Islam Hilaly, Sultan Mahmud Babu, Akhtarul Alam Faruk, Lutfullahel Mazed Babu, Yasir Khan Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman Babul, and Fahim Chowdhury.
