Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stated that no BNP leaders or activists are involved in anti-state or anti-social activities.
“If anyone commits wrongdoing using the party’s name, they will not be spared. They must be punished,” he told journalists at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan on Saturday.
Rizvi urged the media to present true and objective news, saying false reports can cause serious confusion in society and the state. “It has become a habit for some to blame BNP whenever something happens,” he said. “Anyone involved in anti-social acts should be brought under the law, but the government is not taking any action.”
Commenting on the law-and-order situation, he said there is no visible improvement. “Those creating an artificial crisis in daily essentials are not being held accountable. When wheat prices have fallen globally, the price has risen in Bangladesh. Ensuring public safety is the government’s responsibility. If the state fails, accidents and social unrest may follow,” he said.
Referring to recent arrests in Raozan, Rizvi said, “Some terrorists were caught with weapons, but some media falsely claimed they were BNP men. Writing such things without proof is unfortunate. Even in Raozan, organisational action has been taken against several senior leaders over different allegations.”
“The BNP has fought for 15 years to free the country from oppression and injustice. The movement reached its peak in July and August. People may now breathe a little easier, but they are not yet free from fear,” he added.
BNP Joint Secretary Abdus Salam Azad and central leaders Bazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed, Aminul Islam, and Ramesh Dutta were also present.
