A local BNP leader died after being seriously injured in an attack following an arbitration meeting at Nabodaya Bazar in Dhaka’s Adabar area.
The victim, Abul Bashar Badsha, was general secretary of the Nabodaya Housing Unit BNP. Saddam Hossain, president of the same unit, was also injured in the attack.
Around 12:30am Thursday, doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency department declared Badsha dead.
According to local sources, the conflict originated two days ago during a dispute over watching a Brazil football match.
The disagreement involved Ripon, Nirob, and Parvez on one side, and Saddam and his followers on the other. Following the initial dispute, Saddam’s group reportedly attacked Ripon’s party and vandalised their shops located in Nabodaya Bazar.
An arbitration (salish) was convened on Wednesday evening to resolve the matter of the shop vandalism.
However, witnesses alleged that the proceedings were “one-sided,” which provoked the opposing group. Enraged by the nature of the meeting, the rival party attacked Saddam and Badsha with local weapons, leaving them critically wounded.
Locals rushed the two to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, from where they were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Badsha was later pronounced dead.
Adabar Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident.
