A BNP leader was shot dead reportedly by his cousin on Wednesday morning in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna over land dispute.
The deceased was identified as Biru Molla, 60, convener of the Lakshmikunda union BNP.
The incident took place around 9:30am in Kamalpur village under Lakshmikunda union of the upazila.
Local residents said there had been a long-standing dispute between Lakshmikunda BNP convener Biru Molla and his cousin, Zahurul Islam Molla, over soil cutting on char land of the Padma River.
Biru Mollah went to Zahurul Islam Molla’s house in the morning,to discuss the issue, during which a physical confrontation broke out between them.
At one stage, Zahurul Islam Molla shot Biru Molla. The injured Biru Molla was taken to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, Mominuzzaman, confirmed the killing and said police were at the scene and an investigation was underway.
