The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled its four members in Chattogram for allegedly being involved in violent incidents following the release of the candidate list.
A press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was issued in this regard on Tuesday.
The expelled activists are Alauddin Moni, president of the Sitakunda upazila unit of Swechhasebak Dal; Helal Uddin Babor, its general secretary; Mamun, convener of the Sitakunda municipality unit of BNP; and Momin Uddin Mintu, general secretary of the Jubo Dal Sonaichhari union unit.
According to the release, after Monday evening, several local leaders were involved in violent activities, including blocking the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Kadamrasul, Bhatiyari Bazar, and Jalil Gate areas of Sitakunda in Chattogram, centering on party nominations.
The statement further mentioned that all four expelled individuals are known followers of BNP Central Vice Chairman and Chattogram North District leader Aslam Chowdhury.
Earlier, around 7:30 PM on Monday, supporters of Aslam Chowdhury blocked the highway in Sitakunda. Police and the local administration brought the situation under control after about an hour.
On Monday, BNP announced a preliminary list of candidates for 237 constituencies across the country. Following the announcement, reports of disputes and violence over nominations have emerged from various districts.
