The eighth season of Netflix’s dystopian anthology series Black Mirror is officially in production, Variety has confirmed.
Filming for the new season began this summer, although Netflix has yet to announce a release date.
Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror explores the darker side of technology and its impact on society through standalone stories.
Brooker previously confirmed that the series would return, promising that the upcoming season would be “more ‘Black Mirror’ than ever.”
Brooker is writing and executive producing Season 8 alongside Bisha K. Ali.
Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones and Louise Sutton are also serving as executive producers, while Mark Kinsella is attached as co-executive producer.
The series is licensed by Banijay Rights.
Netflix has not yet revealed details about the season’s episodes, cast or storylines.
The announcement comes as the streaming giant confirmed several other returning shows.
Legends, the Neil Forsyth drama about undercover customs officers, has received a six-episode second season, while reality series Being Gordon Ramsay will also return for another season.
The Gentlemen has additionally been renewed for a third season, following the success of its second instalment.
Netflix also confirmed the return of several other UK productions, including Supacell, House of Guinness and Black Doves.
Supacell Season 2 has finished production and is targeting a 2027 release, while Black Doves will return later this year.
House of Guinness Season 2 is scheduled to begin production in January.
For fans of Black Mirror, however, the biggest development is that production on Season 8 is already underway, marking the next chapter in Brooker’s long-running exploration of technology, society and the unsettling possibilities of the future.
