The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, which was stranded in Rome due to a technical glitch, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka after nearly 40 hours of disruption.
“The flight landed safely at the HSIA at 12:30pm,” said Biman Public Relations Officer Bosra Islam.
Biman officials said, the Flight BG‑306 departed Rome at 11pm local time on Saturday (BST 3am) following completion of repairs and technical and safety checks.
The Toronto-Rome-Dhaka flight was operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
Earlier on Saturday, a team of engineers along with essential spare parts reached Italy to repair the aircraft. The team travelled on Biman’s BG‑305 flight, which landed at Fiumicino at 19:16 local time on Saturday (23:16 Bangladesh time).
Biman authorities said technical work began immediately after the team’s arrival in Rome.
More than a hundred passengers on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight were subjected to extreme suffering after being stranded inside the aircraft at the airport following the malfunction.
The ordeal began when they were travelling from Toronto to Dhaka via Rome. After landing in the Italian capital on Thursday afternoon for a scheduled stopover, the aircraft’s air conditioning (AC) system failed.
Passengers, including children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions, were reportedly kept inside the plane for approximately nine hours in stifling heat.
Stranded passengers expressed frustration over a lack of clear communication from the national flag carrier, noting they were unable to maintain regular contact with their families.
