Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) is installing 370 closed‑circuit cameras at key points in the city to curb crimes including theft, robbery, extortion and harassment.
Officials said some cameras are being procured by RMP, while others are donated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).
RCC has already handed over 155 state‑of‑the‑art cameras to the RMP, BSS reports.
Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally delivered them to Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir at a recent ceremony.
RMP has also procured and installed 215 cameras, said spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman.
The cameras will provide round‑the‑clock surveillance through a central control room, aimed at ensuring criminals cannot escape detection.
Commissioner Kabir said CCTV cameras are an effective tool for identifying offenders. “We are spreading a network of cameras across the city. It will be possible to rein in crime,” he noted.
RCC Administrator Riton said the corporation is working to ensure citizen security. “We will work collectively to build a safe and peaceful metropolis,” he added, pledging further cooperation with RMP.
