Square Pharmaceuticals PLC reported record annual profit and earnings per share for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, extending its run of rising earnings.
The largest pharmaceutical company of Bangladesh also prepares to invest Tk725 crore in expansion, as approved by its board of directors on Monday.
Consolidated earnings per share (EPS), which includes those of the subsidiaries, rose 15.5 per cent to an all-time high of Tk31.24 in FY2025-26 from Tk27.04 a year earlier, according to a company disclosure issued on Monday.
The company’s board also recommended its highest-ever 130 per cent cash dividend, up from 120 per cent in the previous year.
The proposal translates into Tk13 in cash dividends for each share with a face value of Tk10, subject to shareholder approval.
The latest results extend a record of earnings growth at a company established in 1958 that has maintained its position as Bangladesh’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturer since 1985, according to its corporate profile.
Square Pharmaceuticals became a public limited company in 1991 and listed on the stock exchanges in 1995.
Having begun exporting medicines in 1987, the company has expanded its international business, with its corporate profile identifying 42 export destinations.
Its consolidated EPS has climbed steadily from Tk17.99 in FY2020-21, according to Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) historical data.
The latest figure represents an increase of about 74 per cent over five years.
The company’s proposed cash dividend has followed a similar upward trend, consistently rising from 60 per cent in FY2020-21 to 120 per cent in FY2024-25.
Against that background, the board approved Tk725 crore for balancing, modernisation, rehabilitation and expansion (BMRE), capital machinery and land purchases.
BMRE refers to investment in upgrading and expanding production facilities to improve capacity or efficiency.
Despite record earnings, cash generated from regular business operations declined during the financial year.
Consolidated net operating cash flow per share fell about 4.5 per cent to Tk18.65 from Tk19.52, while standalone operating cash flow per share declined about 6.4 per cent to Tk16.81 from Tk17.96.
On a standalone basis, covering the parent company alone, EPS rose about 10.8 per cent to Tk18.43 from Tk16.63. Consolidated accounts, by contrast, combine the financial performance of the parent and its subsidiaries.
Consolidated net asset value per share, representing the company’s assets after deducting liabilities, increased about 13.4 per cent to Tk178.99 from Tk157.88 a year earlier.
Square Pharmaceuticals has 88.65 crore outstanding shares. Its shares closed at Tk218.80 on Monday, compared with Tk218.90 on Sunday.
The proposed dividend will be placed before shareholders at the company’s 60th annual general meeting, scheduled for 15 December at 10 am through a virtual platform.
The record date is 16 November, which will determine shareholders’ eligibility for the dividend and participation in the meeting.
