The Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited has been reconstituted through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on 25 April, the national flag carrier said on Sunday.
The new 13-member board was formed in accordance with The Companies Act, 1994 and relevant provisions of Biman’s Articles of Association.
Rumi A Hossain has been appointed as chairman of the newly reconstituted board. He is a sponsor director and chairman of the Board Executive Committee of Bank Asia PLC, with nearly three decades of leadership experience in the banking and corporate sector, particularly in financial management, corporate governance and strategic planning, according to a press release.
The other members of the board are Md Khairuzzaman Majumder, Secretary of the Finance Division; Fahmida Akhtar, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism; Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanvir Khan, Assistant Chief of Air Staff; Md Hasan Uz Zaman, Engineer in Chief of the Bangladesh Army; Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim; M Masrur Riaz, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh; Sharif Zahir, Chairman of United Commercial Bank; Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Vice Chairman of DBL Group; Md Mamunur Rashid, Additional Managing Director of Index Companies and former president of ICMAB; Khairul Alam Chowdhury, Head of Chambers at Chowdhury & Law Firm; Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaque of the Marketing Department, University of Dhaka; and Kaizer Sohel Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Biman (ex-officio).
On Sunday, the first full-day meeting of the newly reconstituted board was held at Biman’s head office, Balaka. The meeting discussed the airline’s overall operations, financial management, service development, fleet expansion, safety standards enhancement and future strategic planning, and took various important policy decisions.
It is expected that with the leadership of this board — formed as a strong team combining merit, experience and professional expertise — Biman will establish an even stronger position as a self-reliant, modern international standard national flag carrier on the world stage.
