A motorcyclist was killed when a bus hit his vehicle in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari on Wednesday night.
The deceased, Kuben Joyee Tripura, 25, was the son of Kripacharya Tripura from Pakkhimura village in Guimara.
Another rider, identified as Prafulla Tripura, son of Ranjan Mohan Tripura from Dhanimohan Karbari Para in Matiranga upazila, was injured in the accident.
According to locals, a Khagrachhari-bound Shanti Paribahan bus hit the motorcycle in the Bailyachari School Para area around 9pm. Both riders fell on the road after the collision.
Locals quickly rescued the victims and transported them to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex, where a doctor at the emergency department declared Kuben dead. Prafulla Tripura is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Guimara Police Station, said the bus driver fled the scene. Police have seized both vehicles involved in the crash, and legal proceedings are currently ongoing.
