Popular Bangladeshi actress Ashna Habib Bhabna is currently drawing attention at the 48th Moscow International Film Festival. Her film ‘King in the Land of the Princess’ has been officially selected in the ‘Artcore’ section of the festival and is scheduled to be screened on April 18.
Directed by Asif Islam, the film features Bhabna as a captivating dancer from a fading Jatrapala tradition, exploring the decline of a traditional performing art form.
On the red carpet, Bhabna chose to highlight her country’s heritage rather than opt for international luxury labels. She stood out at the festival venue in a striking vermilion red katan overcoat designed by Tanvi Kabir.
The designer noted that the piece was not repurposed from a saree but specially woven using original Benarasi motifs. Bhabna paired the coat with black fitted trousers and a top, along with a contrasting green statement necklace, creating a regal look.
Speaking from Moscow, Bhabna described the international premiere as a great honour in her acting career. Reflecting on her journey, she said she has never been part of any ‘group’ or ‘circle’ in the industry and that her path has not been easy, adding that becoming a true artist is rarely straightforward. She also expressed hope that greater government support could help Bangladeshi cinema achieve more success globally.
Confident about her role in the film, Bhabna has sought prayers from audiences and fans for the film’s success at the prestigious festival.
The actress has been widely praised for representing both Bangladeshi fashion and cinema on the global stage, adding that the audience’s love continues to inspire her to move forward.
