The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has re-fixed the consumer-level price of furnace oil (HFO) at Tk71.10 per litre, with the new rates set to take effect from midnight tonight.
It is a Tk14.90 drop from the existing price of Tk86 per litre, set on 2 August 2024.
The decision was announced on Sunday through a press release following a public hearing on proposals submitted by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and various oil marketing companies.
According to the BERC order, the revised price will apply to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), public and private power plants, industrial factories, and other consumers.
As per the notification, the consumer-level price has been set at Tk71.10 per litre. Additionally, the marketing charge for Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, and Standard Asiatic Oil Company has been fixed at Tk 0.71 per litre, while the unified transportation charge is set at Tk1.20 per litre.
The BPC initially submitted its proposal for price revision on 20th January 2025. Subsequently, Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, and Standard Asiatic Oil Company submitted their own proposals to increase marketing and transportation charges.
The Commission held a public hearing on these proposals on 29th January 2026, and written opinions from interested parties were accepted until 3 February.
The commission finalised the new rates and charges under the authority of Sections 22(b) and 34 of the BERC Act 2003 after reviewing and analysing all relevant information. BERC confirmed that the revised rates for furnace oil will be effective across the country from 12am tonight.
