The future of Shakib Al Hasan has again become a central topic in Bangladesh cricket. Over the past few weeks, senior figures of the Bangladesh Cricket Board have openly discussed bringing him back into the national setup. The talks gained pace at a time when the team is struggling for stability and direction, both on and off the field.
Board members have confirmed that Shakib’s name was raised in recent meetings. The discussion was not emotional. It was practical. Officials believe his experience and impact still matter. They also contacted Shakib to understand his position. According to board sources, he said he wants to play for Bangladesh again if the situation allows it.
The clearest statement so far came from BCB director Asif Akbar, who spoke on the talk show Thikanay Khaled Muhiuddin. He said the board has already taken a decision to bring Shakib back, but the matter now depends on legal clearance.
“It was decided in our board meeting that Aminul Islam Bulbul would talk to the government,” Asif Akbar said. “If the cases are not too serious and the legal problems are solved, Shakib will be brought back.”
He made it clear that the board cannot act beyond a certain point. “We decided to bring Shakib back into the side,” he said. “But the legal area is where we don’t have much to do.”
Shakib has remained away from Bangladesh cricket due to legal and political complications. These issues have created uncertainty about his return to the country and his availability for national duty. While the board wants him back on cricketing grounds, it admits the final call is not in its hands.
Asif Akbar also spoke about how similar situations were handled in the past. Without naming anyone, he referred to two former Bangladesh captains and questioned the difference in treatment. “Both were Bangladesh captains,” he said. “One was a whip. The other was seen on 3 August. He also wished on her birthday and moves around with the future government.”
He then spoke about justice and fairness, quoting Shaheed Osman Hadi. “I love his line,” Asif Akbar said. “I want to ensure justice for my enemies as well. So Shakib can hope for justice too.”
Asif Akbar also said he has been personally involved in pushing the issue. “I have been chasing this for a month,” he said. “I am taking responsibility and saying this.”
For now, the message from the board is clear. The BCB wants Shakib Al Hasan back. The decision has been made inside the boardroom. What remains uncertain is whether the legal path will clear in time to turn that decision into reality.
