The Bangladesh Cricket Board plans to build shade roofs over the galleries at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram to improve conditions for spectators.
BCB director and Finance Committee chairman Israfil Khosru shared the plan while speaking to reporters during the second T20I between Bangladesh and Australia on Friday.
He said fans often have to sit under strong sunlight or rain for long periods while watching matches. The board wants to make their experience more comfortable.
According to Khosru, the project is part of a wider effort to improve facilities at the stadium. He said some existing problems have already been fixed and work to upgrade the dressing rooms will begin soon.
Khosru also spoke about the recent incident involving Bangladesh spinner Nayeem Hasan. He described the matter as unfortunate and said it is currently under investigation.
He said the BCB is closely following the situation but will wait for the investigation to finish before making further comments.
“The BCB is like a family,” Khosru said. “We have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our players and everyone connected with cricket. We will always support them when needed.”
On the issue of employee salaries, Khosru said the board has already increased benefits for its staff. He added that employees deserve fair treatment and proper support.
He also spoke about the board’s financial plans. Khosru said the goal is not simply to keep money in fixed deposits. Instead, the BCB wants to invest more in cricket development.
He said greater investment is needed in players, facilities and grassroots cricket. He also stressed the need for regular competitions across the country.
“Cricket should not be limited to Dhaka,” he said. “We want to organise more activities at the district level and help the game grow across Bangladesh.”
When asked about reports that some spectators carrying banners in support of Shakib Al Hasan faced police harassment at the stadium, Khosru said fans have the right to express their emotions. At the same time, he said the board remains focused on maintaining a safe and friendly environment for everyone.
He also confirmed that an official has been temporarily suspended following a separate incident linked to national cricket. The matter remains under investigation.
BCB director Fahim Sinha said the board is also working on the future of the Bangladesh Premier League. He said the aim is to ensure the tournament takes place regularly without interruption.
Board officials hope the ongoing development work and reforms will bring positive results for Bangladesh cricket in the near future.
