Speaking at a post-budget press conference for FY2026-27 held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Friday, the governor assured depositors that there would be no disruption in access to their funds.

“Depositors will not face any inconvenience. They will be able to withdraw their money at any time,” he said while responding to questions on the banking sector situation.

The governor said that Bangladesh Bank has multiple regulatory instruments to manage liquidity stress in the banking system, adding that coordinated measures would be implemented in the coming days to stabilise the situation.

His remarks come amid rising concerns over liquidity strain at Islami Bank, the country’s largest Shariah-based lender, which has triggered anxiety among depositors regarding access to their savings.

Reiterating the central bank’s position, Mostaqur Rahman confirmed that any necessary emergency liquidity support would be extended to ensure stability in Islami Bank and protect public deposits, while safeguarding overall financial sector stability.
