During the National Cricket League (NCL) match between Barishal Division and Khulna Division at the Khulna Division Stadium, Barishal’s physiotherapist Hasan Ahmed passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. The Barishal team management confirmed the news.
Hasan, aged 47, had been serving as Barishal’s physio for over a decade. On the morning of the third day of the tournament’s opening round, he suddenly experienced chest pain. He was immediately taken to a government hospital, then transferred to several others as his condition worsened. Ultimately, after being taken to Barishal City Hospital, he was pronounced dead following heart failure.
To honour Hasan’s memory, Bangladesh and the West Indies will wear black armbands during the first T20 match. A minute’s silence will also be observed before the game. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that any NCL matches extending to the fourth day will pay similar tribute.
On the opening day of the NCL at the same venue, Barishal batter Fazle Mahmud Rabbi had also fallen ill while fielding on the boundary in the 19th over. He was carried off on a stretcher and taken to an ambulance, though hospitalisation was not required. He has since recovered.
In the first round of the NCL, Khulna scored 313 runs in their first innings. Barishal were bowled out for 126 in reply and forced to follow on. In their second innings, Barishal made 224 runs, leaving Khulna to chase a small target, which they achieved with seven wickets in hand.
