Barcelona booked a place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup with a crushing 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the semi final. The match took place in Jeddah on Wednesday. Barcelona stretched their winning run to nine matches.
Fermin Lopez played a key role. He scored once and set up two more goals. Barcelona went into halftime with a 4-0 lead and stayed in control throughout the game.
Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. He controlled a loose ball from Fermin and finished from close range. Eight minutes later, Raphinha ran down the right and sent in a low cross. Fermin met it in the box and guided the ball into the net.
Barcelona struck again in the 34th minute. Fermin passed the ball to Roony Bardghji. He moved well inside the area and shot low to score. Raphinha added the fourth just before the break. He burst into the box and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
After the restart, Barcelona kept pressing. Athletic failed to clear their lines in the 52nd minute. Raphinha punished them with a left foot shot to make it 5-0 and complete his brace.
Barcelona will now face the winner of the other semi final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. That match will also be played in Jeddah.
Barcelona are aiming to defend the Super Cup title they won last season. They have won the competition a record 15 times. The final will be played on Sunday in Jeddah.
