Ferran Torres struck twice as Barcelona recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Getafe in LaLiga on Sunday, with Dani Olmo adding a goal and an assist in another impressive display from Hansi Flick’s side at their makeshift home.
The victory leaves Barcelona unbeaten and second in the table on 13 points, two behind leaders Real Madrid, who maintained their perfect start with five wins from five by defeating Espanyol on Saturday.
Playing in front of 6,000 rain-soaked supporters at their Sant Joan Despi training ground, the Catalans controlled the game from the outset despite being without teenager Lamine Yamal for a third consecutive match through injury.
Torres, starting in place of Robert Lewandowski under Flick’s rotation policy, opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Olmo’s clever back-heel teed him up and the forward fired past David Soria.
He doubled the lead in the 34th minute, running on to Raphinha’s through ball and finishing neatly inside the near post. Torres almost completed his hat-trick before half-time but struck the crossbar after rounding the goalkeeper.
The double takes his tally to four goals in five games this season, placing him second in the league’s scoring charts, one behind Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.
“I know I can be a starter at Barcelona and I need to take advantage of every opportunity I get,” Torres told DAZN. “I am confident many more goals will come. We have quality players who can find space and we have done well in that regard. I am glad that we won another one in decisive fashion.”
After the interval Barcelona remained in control, and substitute Marcus Rashford, rested after his midweek Champions League exploits against Newcastle, made an immediate impact. In the 63rd minute the England international surged down the right and delivered a cross for Olmo, who finished from inside the area to seal the result.
The win continued Barcelona’s strong start as they adjust to playing at their cramped training ground, with renovation work at Camp Nou running nine months behind schedule. Their temporary home, the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, was unavailable on Sunday.
Barcelona next travel to Real Oviedo on Thursday, while eighth-placed Getafe host Alaves on Wednesday.
