Bangladesh Bank stepped up its push for digital payments with a day-long ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ seminar in Narsingdi, positioning Bank Asia PLC as the lead bank to expand adoption of electronic transactions and financial awareness.
The programme, held on 23 April at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium in Narsingdi, brought together students, teachers, businesspeople, customers, bank officials and mobile financial service providers to promote digital financial services.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Arief Hossain Khan attended as chief guest. Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Md Abdullah-Al-Faruq and Bank Asia Deputy Managing Director Mirza Azhar Ahmed joined as special guests. Bangladesh Bank Director of Payment Systems Department-1 ANM Moinul Kabir presided over the session.
The event combined a rally, seminar sessions, presentations and open discussions with awareness campaigns designed to highlight the benefits of Bangla QR and other digital payment platforms.
A detailed presentation on the ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative by Bangladesh Bank outlined efforts to encourage a transition from cash-based transactions to digital payments. The session was followed by remarks from the guests and an interactive discussion with participants.
Promotional activities included roadshows, distribution of Bangla QR leaflets, banner displays and special discount offers linked to QR-based payments at selected locations.
Organisers placed emphasis on the speed, convenience and security of Bangla QR, describing the platform as a key tool for accelerating financial inclusion and building a stronger digital financial ecosystem in Bangladesh.
Participants included Bangladesh Bank officials, branch managers of banks operating in Narsingdi, regional representatives of mobile financial services, members of merchant associations, as well as students and teachers.
Attendees engaged actively in discussions and expressed interest in organising similar initiatives in the future, according to organisers.
Bank Asia’s role as lead bank reflects its alignment with Bangladesh Bank’s broader goal of developing a cashless economy and expanding financial inclusion across the country.
