Banglalink has signed an agreement with technology company Huawei to develop a digital payments platform branded as Mukto Pay, aimed at expanding cashless financial services in Bangladesh.

The agreement was signed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona on Tuesday, the telecom operator said in a press release.

Banglalink CEO Johan Buse and Huawei South Asia Chief Operating Officer Tim Zhou signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

The platform will be developed for Banglalink’s payment service provider subsidiary Neo PSP and is designed to enable secure, high-volume and real-time digital transactions.

Mukto Pay will use Huawei’s mobile financial services technology to support instant digital payments and transfers with bank-grade security, reliability and scalability.

Banglalink said the initiative is aimed at supporting the country’s expanding digital economy while improving financial access for unbanked and underbanked communities.

The name “Mukto”, meaning liberation, reflects the operator’s vision of making financial services more accessible across Bangladesh.

The operator said the initiative also represents its broader transformation from a telecommunications provider into a digital services platform integrating connectivity, financial services and digital solutions.

Bangladesh Bank has already issued a no objection certificate for the initiative, while the service will be launched after completing the required regulatory approvals.

“ Mukto Pay reflects our commitment to making digital financial services accessible to everyone across Bangladesh,” said Banglalink CEO Johan Buse.

“We are pleased to partner with Huawei to deliver a secure, reliable and inclusive digital payments experience,” he added.

Huawei South Asia Chief Operating Officer Tim Zhou said the partnership will support the development of scalable digital financial services in Bangladesh.

“Through this collaboration we aim to enable secure digital financial services that contribute to Bangladesh’s digital transformation,” he said.
